Forest Ecology and Management + Carbon Markets
As a Research Associate on the Landscape Decarbonization team, Brook uses her experience in forest management, community-based forestry, and carbon markets to deliver equitable, high-integrity, science-based climate solutions that mitigate climate change and support local livelihoods.
Background & Bio
Brook Hemphill is dedicated to expanding impactful forest-based climate solutions that mitigate climate change and benefit local livelihoods. Before joining Carbon Direct as a Research Associate, she worked as a contractor to review forest carbon projects against Carbon Direct’s Criteria for High-Quality Carbon Dioxide Removal. Her academic background has primarily focused on forest management, with a Master of Forestry from Duke University and a Bachelors of Science in Ecosystem Management and Forestry from the University of California, Berkeley.
During her master’s studies at Duke, she was fortunate to collaborate with the community members of Santa María Jaltianguis in Oaxaca, Mexico, conducting research on annual growth rates of native planted pines and newly implemented silviculture treatments. This research aims to help inform targeted forest management practices within the community and throughout the Sierra Juárez.
Prior to her time at Duke, she worked for the Architecture for REDD+ Transactions (ART) where she evaluated jurisdictional REDD+ programs conformance with TREES standard and managed due diligence efforts for the registry platform.
