Meeting the Market’s Demand for High-Integrity Natural Climate Solutions

When: Thursday, September 25 | 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Where: 320 Park Avenue, New York NY 10022

Carbon Direct and Weyerhaeuser invite you to an exclusive, invite-only event at New York Climate Week. Join us for a panel discussion, followed by a networking reception.

Speakers:
Alicia Robbins
, VP of Natural Climate Solutions and Business Development, Weyerhaeuser
Fernando Visser, Director of Business Development and Technology, re.green
Van Butsic, Ph.D., Director of Project Design, Carbon Direct

Global demand for durable, high-quality carbon removals continues to outpace supply. Over the past two years, afforestation and reforestation (ARR) projects have attracted significant attention, yet few have reached market maturity at the scale or quality required by leading buyers. Simultaneously, REDD+ methodologies face ongoing challenges around credibility and durability.

Improved Forest Management (IFM) and demonstrated execution of Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) represent critical, underutilized solutions that can address these gaps. When implemented with rigor, IFM and ARR can deliver nature-based carbon removals at scale, meet price thresholds for institutional buyers, and contribute structural diversity to carbon portfolios.

Already, early projects are demonstrating strong market traction, with limited supply selling out rapidly—a clear signal of unmet demand and opportunity.

This session will convene industry leaders to examine IFM's and ARR’s roles in meeting today’s carbon removal challenges, while establishing the foundation for continued scale backed by carbon finance. Panelists will discuss how IFM and ARR can be deployed responsibly, address concerns around nature-based solutions, and contribute to the long-term stability of carbon markets.

Key Themes:

  • Market Context: Positioning IFM relative to ARR and REDD+ within the broader carbon removal landscape.

  • Supply Scarcity: Understanding the current shortage of high-quality removals and how IFM, and proven ARR, can address it.

  • Buyer Perspectives: Responding to both enthusiasm and skepticism for nature-based solutions, recognizing that buyers in the room already have NBS strategies.

  • Scalability and Impact: Exploring how IFM and ARR can unlock significant carbon potential at scale.

  • Future Outlook: What’s next for IFM and ARR, and frameworks for expanding to meet demands well into the next decade.
